“The fact that Georgia has chosen in cooperation with experts Estonia as an example as they are building up a tax system which supports economic growth is a confirmation that we have been on the right track,” said Minister of Finance Sven Sester. He added that Estonia intended to continue to improve its tax system and was pleased about fruitful cooperation between Estonia and Georgia.
“One of the main objectives of the Georgian government in this respect is to further liberalize the tax law and tax administration, and support entrepreneurship in order to attract investments, expand business, and boost employment opportunities. The relevant amendments to be made to the Tax Code of Georgia to this end have been elaborated based on the Estonian tax model. A thorough analysis of the potential impact of the reform on the business climate of Georgia proved that the local investment environment will become more attractive. This in turn will generate the interest of businesses and attract more foreign direct investments to the country, contribute to the economic recovery and growth, businesses will have better access to financial resources which is especially important for small and medium-sized enterprises,” said Georgian Ambassador Tea Akhvlediani.
On the initiative of the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili the Georgian government has prepared a reform package for 2016-2018 which entails four mai n strands: improvement of business environment, open governance and engagement, development of infrastructure and education.
Amendments to the tax system should be implemented in Georgia already this year.
